Social entrepreneur and digital influencer, Pamilerin Adegoke was the guest on this week’s episode of #WithChude, where he shared his near tragic experience. He disclosed to host, Chude Jideonwo, how his long standing battle with depression would have ended in suicide but for the timely intervention of friends.
Recalling the horrific experience, Pamilerin told Chude, “I just picked up my phone and I had no idea I was posting suicide notes. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. I was already holding a knife and I had no idea. I had injured myself, and I couldn’t feel any pain.”
Having survived a long-standing battle with depression, Pamilerin discovered that caring about other people’s opinions is a major barrier to receiving help when it comes to mental health. He therefore advocates that, if necessary, one should seek validation from only those who really matter – loving family and friends.
“I could have killed myself without knowing,” he said, speaking about how his friends and other well-meaning individuals read his cry for help, and arrived just in time to save his life.
The conversation explored the importance of affirming relationships for the emotional and psychological healing of those dealing with depression and other mental health challenges.
